Grow a
greener future
You might be wondering what is next for your tiny tree? Follow the tips below to hep your sapling grow and thrive!
Summer
The first thing is to move your sapling somewhere shady and sheltered from the sun.
Throughout the summer, give it plenty of water, in the morning or evening. Make sure you aim for the roots and avoid splashing the leaves.
Winter
But we’d recommend waiting until your sapling is two years old before planting it out. However, if the container is falling apart, you might want to replant it in an old pot.
Once your tree is old enough, you can take it to a community tree nursery, local project or plant it in your garden. Trees don’t like to be planted in the summer, so it’s best to do this in the winter.
Planting your tree
Bear in mind that if you planted from an acorn or horse chestnut, your tree will need a big space. If your garden's on the smaller side, we recommend taking it to a community project or gifting it to someone with a big enough garden.
If your local community nursery can’t take donations, reach out to councils, schools, local landowners to see if they’d be willing to plant your tree. Get creative! See who you can ask!
We hope you’ve enjoyed seeing your acorn or conker become a tiny tree! However, ITF won’t be involved this coming year. So please do follow our partner Creating Natures Corridors for updates going forwards.
